swiss saturdays: weather–expect the unexpected
When we have friends and family come to visit, generally the first question they ask is “What’s the weather like at that time on the year?”. It’s the same question I would ask too. Sadly, it’s the one question I can never answer. I’ll take any other questions over that one.
How much money to bring? Easy. As much as customs will allow, you’ll need it.
What will we see? Easy. I’ll send you a million photos.
What’s the weather typically like? YIKES! You’re better off consulting a Oiuja board on that one. Your chances for an accurate answer are far better.
Strangely enough, it’s even harder to predict the weather in the summer. I’m not sure if this is something contained to Luzern, but the weather changes on a dime. The morning will be sunny and warm, and just like that, you’ll start to hear all your windows slamming shut, the wind picking up and off in the horizon what looks like the Nothing from the Never Ending Story (yes, I’m a dork) descending upon the city. And as quickly as it arrives, it leaves. Generally, we’re talking anywhere from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. Or 2-3 weeks. I guess it depends on how mad Mother Nature is at us.
So, if you’re planning a trip to Switzerland in the summer months (and you absolutely should, it’s beautiful), plan on the below and everything in between. Happy travels.
